I enjoyed both The Witcher and Witcher 2. The Witcher is a monster hunter and the games come from a series of books. I found reading the books help fill in the gapes and you get a good feel for these mercenary monster hunters.
The Witcher was decent but the sequel was much improved in both function and graphics. The game was a huge step forward and with 3 we know have an open world to explore. For as big as this game is they did not knock the graphics to a lower quality they found a way to optimize the engine for scale and quality and it is one of the best looking games to date.
You return as your role as Geralt of Rivia -the grizzled, ass kicking witcher to rid the lands of monsters, demons and ghouls that are terrorizing the lands. This time you are on an involved mission to protect and guide a woman who is wanted by an incredibly nasty group that is hell bent on destroying everything to get to her. The Wild Hunt was interesting and I enjoyed the storyline.
The quest system has been improved and is far from gather this and take it here that is so prevalent in many rpgs. Each is very different and created with thought. Between the treasure hunting quests, monster slaying quests, boxing challenges etc all keep you in a diverse universe of things to do.
The game is also very large in both landscape and storylines to complete. The main quest takes a very longtime to complete and the abundance of side quests and challenges is staggering. Not to mention get those done and there are dlc to continue the journey. Most can expect over 150-200 hrs of gameplay if you work on completing this huge game.
I played this on the ps4 and these screen shots are from that version. I think it is also one of the best looking games on the ps4 to date.
Also this game has been on sale everywhere…it was a steal at 60 bucks but I have seen it for 25 now and any rpg fan should grab it !
Also a side note:
The dlc added to this game is not your usual “fluff” as it has some tightly written story and adds another 10 hours or so per expansion. Again- they even did the dlc correctly. I can not say enough good things about this developer and what they give to the consumer. They have earned both my respect and my cash !
I can not wait to see what they create next !
