Mafia III came out and was rather negatively received from most reviewers. I put off playing this game for a long time but my love for Mafia and Mafia II made me hold onto this one to give it a shot.
I am playing Mafia III on the ps4. You are Lincoln Clay, a muscle-bound man back from Nam looking to make his mark now. When things go sideways the story shows how Lincoln rises to the challenge and works to become a serious threat to those who did him wrong.
The story is the selling point in this game. It is solid and kept me involved with the game. The visuals are very good but the music really sets the tone. You are in the late sixties and the cars and dress also represent this.
The game reminds me a little of the old Godfather game in the way you work to recruit people to your cause. The varied missions have you taking over drugs, guns, booze, and you hand control to your allies who all have their own reasons for working with you. The game is similar to GTA 5 in the driving and living city aspects but more limited. Cops are easier to evade and there is no real damage to vehicles or at least it is very limited. The stealth in the game works well and is usually the best way to complete things but you can go in guns blazing. Just realize it is usually you against a large team so the odds you will survive are low and they can call in back up too. The AI isn’t super smart and I think this is one area that hurt the game. Simple techniques you have to get the attention of a single target works over and over. But still, I found the game enjoyable and never felt bored. The game is a 30 plus hour game so I feel you get your money’s worth but it doesn’t outstay it’s welcome either. There are collectibles to pick up if you enjoy running all over and finding goodies to extend the game time as well.
The game can be found for a deal nowadays. If this sounds like anything you might enjoy this is a good time to pick it up!
