Elden Ring

From Software’s Eden Ring has taken Soul’s gaming and opened the door for so many who never thought they would enjoy a From Soft game. It has the same hard structured bosses but in an open world with so much content, secrets, and areas to explore it is far bigger than any previous game to date.

Souls’ games have the issue of hitting a wall and you just keep banging at the wall or quit. The open-world design here means you can simply move on and return when you are more prepared to complete an area or a boss you are struggling with. The land is full of shortcuts, optional bosses and areas, hidden treasures and spells to find and the sense of exploration kept me looking around every rock for a surprise.

Bosses in this game are numerous and each fight is designed impeccably and the variety of skills they come at you with is impressive. No two fights are the same and you find some are huge hulking beasts and giants and others are just skilled swordsmen or powerful casters. I played as a pure mage and this route is said to be the easiest path to competition but as an older gamer, it was the correct path to see the end of me. The addition of the horse was a great new mechanic with the ability of the double jump to reach hard areas. Some bosses you fight on horseback and it also changes up the strategy and gameplay in a positive way. Being able to summon in npc’s to help battle and the sheer number of different npc’s you can find and improve is another helpful way to beat those hard bosses.

I invested 186 hours in the game, reached a level of 162 as an Astrologer, and still struggled on Melania, a fast as hell swordsmith, and the final boss the Elden Beast. Now I may go back to help others as a companion as I still am thinking about the game after my completion. There are multiple endings and of course NG+ for those wanting even more.

They are still tweaking and adding to the game by balancing this huge world. If you are a fan of Souls games and want a huge world to explore by all means get at it and buy this game!

This game is going to win multiple awards and accolades for the hard work From Software put into it. It is an amazing game. I played it on PC with only minor issues on my aging setup.
