Larian studios came out with the Divinity series, which I enjoyed, but with BG3 they knocked it out of the park! From a great story, great cast of characters, cut scenes, branching stories for characters, a ton of options of how to complete objectives, all in all one of the best RPGs I have played.

You start on a journey to rid yourself, and others, of a parasite implanted by Mind Flayers, that can turn people into these monstrosities. But with help from an unknown source, you are sent on a mission to find a cure before no one is left.
As you travel you meet up with companions to join and empower your team to beat all kinds of nasty monsters and people and gain the trust and power to complete your task. You are given the freedom to do this in a kind way or to be a murderous asshole and the freedom gives you plenty of replay value. But the game is also quite long but engaging, so once I dug in I was playing for 150 hours to complete my first run.

I enjoyed talking to all the NPCs, getting the local dirt, and helping make the area a better place then it was when I arrived. I loved swapping different companions in and out depending on my need. Each is very different in personality, and in skills. The banter between them is also entertaining. I made my main a wizard, and by the end of the game he was a powerhouse! 4 people co-op is also an option. I played my first run solo though, to learn the mechanics and gameplay, but may come back to it later with friends.

Baldur’s Gate 3 just became the first game to win GOTY at BAFTA, The Golden Joysticks, TGA, DICE and GDC. It is recognized as a pinnacle in game design and makes me excited to see the next game coming, DIVINITY. I played this on my Alienware PC, Intel super 7, Nvidia 5700 with no issues. It is also out on PS5, Xbox Series X. If you are a fan of RPGs with deep systems and a compelling story, do not miss this game!
