Wastelands 2 came out after a funded kickstarter program and now has a directors edition out for pc and consoles. It is from Brian Fargo and his team and anyone who has played Fallout 1 and 2 will be familiar with the gameplay. It is slicker looking for today’s hardware with a party system and a 30-40 hour story.
The gameplay is from an isometric perspective with a fully rotational camera. The battle system is turn-based with some twists based on stats. The voice acting is good and the different characters make a fun team. Each member can specialize in a different weapon, skill set and has different stats. You adjust these as you level up and find better equipment. It is best to have a varied group to deal with any encounter and to have a healer and surgeon in the group is a must. I had a couple melee dudes, a sniper, a energy weapon specialist and my character was great with a pistol. The healer was also specialized as a surgeon but I also gave another some basic healing skills in case I lost my healer or had to save him as he can not save himself if unconscious.

I only ran into a few bugs and it bsd on my older pc once. You can save at anytime so any issues are not super hard to look past. I found on easy the battle system still challenging but not unforgiving. I have not lost a member of my team which was my goal. The varied quests are interesting and the random encounters are not overly annoying. The cut scenes are in the game engine with no cgi in this lower budget game.
I have always enjoyed these types of games and hope to purchase this devs next game which is out now on steam:
