I have always enjoyed these JRPGs, and Bravely Default was special to me as it was my first review. This Switch game has better graphics, competent gameplay, it does force you to grind some but I enjoy that. The bosses, skills, jobs, asterisks which give you different classes when defeating bosses, all are pretty good stuff.
Square Enix loves the crystals to save the world set up. But, I do as well, as this game was right up my alley. You make a party of 4, work on leveling up their classes ( jobs) and then as you progress, change jobs, and you find what works best for different areas and different bosses. Some jobs give you defensive skills or healing skills, others make you a tank or a glass cannon. You can adjust the speed of the battle system and although the game gets some negatives for how grindy it can be, I enjoyed it as in those moments, I focused on building up the skills to get them to max power.
The visuals are sharp, character models are adorable, and the monsters are often silly but deadly. Boss battles will test your party, and it may take a few times to learn what you need to use to best these guys. The game lasted me about 60 hours so it is mid length nowadays, and I found it very enjoyable to play before bed and on my lunch breaks. I highly recommend this game if you love old school JRPG games similar to Final Fantasy.
